VOTE YES4Esther for Oceanside City Council, District 1!
VOTE YES on Y, to Save Our Farmlands and Parks!
Dear Oceanside Voter,
Several years ago, while going door-to-door, you told me what was important to you - public safety, a vibrant community and a better quality of life ranked high on your list.
Since then, I have worked diligently and passionately to achieve that for you and for every Oceanside resident.
Oceanside is within the safest in 35 years, with dramatic decreases in emergency response times. I have increased tourism, businesses and hotels; created a world destination for athletic events such as Ironman and Beach Soccer; increased recreational opportunities with the creation of El Corazon Park and Senior Center, Mance Buchanon Park, Luiseño Park, and 22 soccer fields at El Corazon Park; pushed improvements for Oceanside Museum of Art, California Surf Museum, Joe Balderrama Park and Buddy Todd Park; fought to protect Goat Hill; pioneered zero waste goals; led the council to ban puppy mill stores; and am working to make Oceanside a bicycle-friendly community.
I brought $26 million and zero waste to Oceanside and am working to bring $100 million in jobs and infrastructure improvements.
I brought Google Indoor Maps to Oceanside, making us the first on the west coast!
I am working for you, to make Oceanside economically and environmentally sustainable for our future Oceanside families, generations and businesses.
I’ve also worked towards preserving our neighborhoods, protected the homes of our seniors and veterans by supporting rent control for our mobile home parks, created over 1,000 affordable housing units, enacted grassroots youth programs, addressed traffic and homeless issues, increased businesses and jobs, and insisted on the best development projects.
Currently, I am working on homeless issues, which have unacceptably spiked over the last couple of years, expediting our aquatics center at El Corazon Park, and championing agri-tourism at our S. Morro Hills agricultural lands to ensure the economic viability of 3,700 acres of rich farmland.
I also support the SOAR ("Save Our Open Space and Agricultural Resources") initiative, Measure Y on our November ballot, to save our valuable farmlands and stop their destruction with high-density urban sprawl projects by big-time developers. That development would create tremendous traffic congestion and enormous hits to our general fund that would lead to less police officers, higher water bills and taxes, and less services. Please vote YES on Y!
I am running this November to represent my District 1 community, my home.
This is the first year of the city's transition from "at-large" elections to "by-district" elections. Due to receiving a letter threatening legal actions that would have cost the city millions of dollars, the council adopted "by-district" elections, requiring citizens who wish to run for a city council seat to live in one of four districts. I was born and raised in District 1, the same neighborhood where my dad grew up, and I continue to live in the home of my parents, who have now passed. District 1 stretches from our pier, Junior Seau Beach Amphitheatre and Beach Community Center to the hills of Oceana. Our area includes the downtown, North Beach, Townsite, Eastside, Capistrano, Airport, Valley, Crown Heights, Seaside, Loma Alta, Loma Alta Mission Park, and Oceana neighborhoods. These communities have always been very important to me and part of my heart and soul.
I am the best candidate to represent District 1 and all of Oceanside!
I am the only candidate with a background in urban planning and the law, including a BA from Brown University in Urban Studies, graduate studies in Urban Planning and Urban and Rural Studies at Cal State, San Diego and UCSD, and JD from UC Hastings, College of Law; and I am the only candidate with years of experience in getting things done at city hall.
After 20 years of working as a deputy public defender, I decided to give back to my community by serving on the Oceanside City Council. My leadership and hard work have turned our beloved city around. It has taken years of working together as a community. Unfortunately we have lost a very important ally, Mayor Jim Wood, the only other member of the council who shared our vision. It is imperative that I retain my seat on the council, to ensure that we continue preserving our neighborhoods and quality of life, as we continue to grow.
We must work together to bring the council back to "People First."
For proven leadership, leadership that you can trust and rely on, please vote YES for Esther!
